I started with goldfish at the age of 3....AT 8, I was into fancy goldfish, such as the Oranda,Ryukin,Lionhead, and Bubble-eye.....Then I was introduced to my first heater....From then on goldfish were known only as feeders.....At 12yr, I dove into breeding, discovering how easy it was with cichlids....The ease of breeding, big sizes, and monster attitudes is was kept me in the hobby.....Not to mention the fact that this was the first thing outside of video games and Voltron that really relaxed me.....Well, I'm 25 now, although I still have the latest video game system(360), seeing/petting/feeding my Midas before I go to sleep takes it all.......

I feel you man, If i could hug my oscar without killing him..... i would.

i love natives because its like cutting a river in half and looking at whats going on

the bright decorations and brightly colored fish didnt interest me, they all look like sissy fish ( no offense to any cichlid keepers)

so i started keeping reptiles, then i found this site and discovered native fish keeping. i like the aggresiveness and colors of natives, all my fish that i keep will eat live fish, or will clean up after the ones that do ( my minnows lol)

a fish tank is not supposed to have a neon colored cave :grinno:

I got into fish keeping when I was young, and I used to keep goldfish. Kept those things alive for around 5 years. Then I got a 20 gallon and 10 gallon from someone getting out of and started community fish keeping. Then I found the wonderful world of Cichlids. I finally got an Oscar to keep just long enough to give it away when it got too big for my tank. Well, I got attached, and I got a bigger tank. I have recently gotten into Arowana and other ]v[onsters. I LOVE arowana. Their grace, pride, and power is what I love. No other fish can claim to have all these qualities. I am getting a silver in about 2 months. I have 2 pacu I got from a friend with a tank also.

lol i picked after my dad gave me some fish from the lake at disney he cought 2 armored cats some sucker fish so i was like hmm i have so many bottom fish i should get some top and mid water fish so i got me an arow who i love and i wish my oscar dident pick on him because oscars/arows = fish gods

if i see a fish i really like i base my stock around it and go from there. i only have 2 tanks and one is cycling and i still have enough time to change my mind lol.

When I was born my parents got a oscar in a 35 gallon and then they put a pleco and a bluegill in with it. When that died the tank was turned into a terrarium... after everything died me and my brother and sister decided to get some predatory fish (barracuda and limashovelnose). Got sick of them because they would just sit at the bottom, now I know that its because the tank was too small. Then I also had a 2.5 laying around so I asked at a different forum how many tiger barbs I could put in there and they said none and that forum got me into keeping fish. So right now I have the 35 as a community (going to ditch them for a pair of convicts) and I'm getting another tank for my room (40B, 55, or possibly a 75).

i mic everything in one tank

I have a 55 gallon tank with a red oscar (Bob), another 55 with a Lutino Oscar (Rosey), a 30 gallon tank with common goldfish and betta, a 20 gallon community tank with tiger barbs, angelfish, silver dollars, mollies, gouramis, plecostomus, african dwarf frog. I also keep a dog, a cat, 1 hamster, 1 hermit crab. That's enough animals for me. I have always wanted an arrowana, but need much bigger tank. Maybe later on in life when we buy a much bigger house.
:headbang2

i love natives..theyre byfar my favorite kinds of fish..and as for choosing them i just kept fish that are in CO..i currently have 1 black crappie, 1 sm bass, 1 bullhead catfish, and a tiger muskie on the way

I was 7 years old when I went to a family friend's house and their son had a fish tank. I was a small child so the tank looked like a 100g tank, but it was probably a 75g or smaller. Anyways...it was the first time I saw a Clown Knife and I knew from then on that I wanted a fish like that to keep. He had some Oscars as well and a Pleco, but that Clown Knife was the oddest and coolest thing I've ever seen. I've been keeping them ever since I could get a tank.
