what do you guys feed ur armatus. Are silversides and smelt the same thing?? Most of you know the smelt superstition.......

My big boy gets a rotation of cut up tilapia fillet and raw shrimp....and catfish when it is cheap enough.

Just take your time, it would take weeks for him to die via starvation, eventually he'll catch on when there's a limited amount of food especially if theres other fish to teach him to eat. Also waiting for that positive feedback report! ;)

ya kind of. I really don't like feeders since the feeders in my lps are total crap. The disease from them killed 2 of my bichirs.

Why don't you quarantine and medicate your feeders before you use them? That's what I do and my fish haven't picked up any diseases.

Regarding the live food, I agree that you're rushing it.

When the fish gets bigger (5-7"), they will eat shrimp and fish bits dropped in the water.

The only problem I can think of with smelt is the big bones they may have...I usually feed strips of fish filet like tilapia or catfish.

When they get really big (18"+) you better watch your fingers when you drop in the food...not kidding about that at all.

No need to starve them out...armatus grow really quick and will take all types of food...try to be a little more patient and let it grow out a bit.

That's been my experience and I've had quite a few of these over the years.

I tried to string a piece of silverside with toothfloss and put it near a current. No far no luck. the armatus just eyes at it and darts away. How long can i starve it for (already 3 days no food)?Got from vendor 3 days ago. I will get feeders tommorow.

should I bring the my baby bass out (2.5 inches) to teach it to eat (monkey see monkey do)? I divided them up just in case they might fight each other.
