put the bag in the tank for 10 minutes, just to get it used to the tempereture then open the bag and let it swim out or if you dont want to have alot of nitrates in your tank just put 1/2 of the water in the bag in

that is terrible advice. you shouldnt put the shops water into your tank, especially if you havent had any disease problems. if anything you should try your best to avoid putting it in as much as possible.
the fish that stores get from distributers often have some sort of disease, usually ich.

never let any water from the bag into your tank. a 5 inch fish might be hard to net in the bag. my fish were all about that size. float them for temp and reach in and grab the fish. it won't hurt them.

My boy is arriving tomorrow. I am afraid to open the box for fear that something may have happened during shipping. Gonna be really hot in Jersey tomorrow, possibly 3 digits hot !! Kinda excited, my first mail order fish.

if the transporter knows what they are doing, they will have put cool-packs in the box to keep the temps down . . . conversely, in the winter time they will add a heat-pack

this is always tricky for me in Florida, because if I order fish in the winter time, the shipper may include the heat-pack, and when it's in the 80s in December, that can be a problem :)

oh, and under no circumstances should you allow any bag water to get into your tank . . . you're better off just netting the fish and dropping him in . . . it's what I do, and I have never lost a fish doing this

if at all possible, I suggest you test the Ph of the bag water, only because your own Ph is relatively high

I am gonna temp match the water then acclimate by mixing alittle tank water in the bag. And then net him in. But my Ph is around 7.8-8.0 and the shippers Ph is 7.5

absolutely, you'd be about 15 miles away . . . practically neighbors :D

it's good that you know the shipper's Ph, and if it is 7.5 then I wouldn't worry about it . . . good luck, hope all goes well with the new arrival

FWIW, I've probably ordered on-line about a dozen times . . . in all that time I only had one fish arrive dead, and never had one die after going into the tank . . .
