ok, my jaguar is about 3 inches long, but he is really really dark.. its color really sucks. i was wondering if anybody had some tips to help me out. because i dont want it if the thing is going to look so bad.

A good diet with lots of fresh foods and low nitrates/lots of water changes. If Jaguars are like other CA/SA's his color will improve with age.

Shrimp and Food with Astaxanthin (a carotenoid pigment) are good for enhancing reds and oranges

Spirulina is good for enhancing blues and greens.

i would feed both. i know jags can have purples and blues and greens. So spirulina would help.

along with all of the water changes, good diet, etc etc.

Jaguars are commonly dark when they are jeuveniles. So dont think yours is any different or badly colored. His pattern will emerge with age. So dont get too ahead of yourself. Just take good care of him and he'll do the rest

give it time.... sometimes they show black if they are
in a new tank or if they are stressed out...
Do you have many caves for it to feel safe??
Dither fish would help it feel relaxed!
Try blood worms, krill and maybe some feeders if they have
been quarintined first..

My jag's were not much to look at ,at first and then
when they were established in the tank(and grew a
bit bigger) they changed into great looking cichlids....

good luck(patience)

Is he one of the smaller fish in your tank. If so he could be a little stressed. Is he the dominate fish in the tank. My jags colors did'nt start to pop until about the 5" mark. A varied diet helps a great deal as well.

just give it time jags get nicer as they age jags usually stay pretty plain till theyre fairly large then they become beauties

Like everyone has said, as juvies they lack that striking appearance. Mine was pretty dark until 5" or so. And even then, his colors bounced around for a little while. Now he's gorgeous (about 9"). Give it time.

mine went very dark around 4-6inches but now hes beautiful<blowing my own trumpet>but he is
