It's sad really. I've always wanted a ferret. The cute cuddly little buggers, but none are sold in my country. I live in the caribbean btw. There are restrictions on importing them, but it can be done with a license. a license which I've finally managed to acquire. The thing is, I can't persuade any pet store owners to order some. How do I get one? It must be at an affordable price and in good health. Do you know any breeders? Can I just adopt one online? Help!

There are also mongoose where I live. They were introduced and are wild, and can be dangerous so I don't want to own one. I really really want a pet ferret.

I know a guy who breeds/sells them I could see if he would be willing to ship there.

An easier way to do this would be to get a friend in the states that would be willing to get one form their local Rescue, or Pet store. Doing it this way will guarantee you get a Spayed animal. (Very important especially concerning females.) Unspayed females that go into heat and are not bred can eventually die due to health complications.

Also, I would suggest you find a vet in your area that knows something about Ferrets. Regarding Rabies, Distemper, etc.

Some light reading.

I used to assist in a local Ferret rescue and am currently the proud owner of 4 ferrets, My female just went into heat last week and is scheduled for a hormone shot next week that will shut her cycle off. She won't go back into heat for at least 6 more months. I made a conscious decision when I got her to either have her spayed at 1 year old. Or find a male whole ferret to breed her with. Neither of these options would have even been thought about if I didn't have a 24 hour Animal Hospital within 10 minutes of my house with a House vet that specializes in ferrets. As well as my primary Exotic veterinarian being 20 minutes in the other direction. Ferrets as cute as they are and as enjoyable a pet they are come with HUGE financial responsibilities. I once watched a vet comp over $5000.00 in vet bills to the rescue for services rendered to 1 ferret.
