how do i calcium dust mealworms?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think mealworms are fine as long as you supplement thier diet with other food items. Just becuase an insect is a staple dosen't mean you feed that all the time. I just put the calcium dust at the bottom of the bowl. Usually when the leos strike them they take in a bit of calci dust too.

OMG THAT WAS HILARIOUS!!!!

Id say wet em first tho.. :)

Don't bother dusting them. just find a buy reptomin or another turtle food suuplement & throw them in with the mealworms. Worms will nibble down the pellets & gut load all the vitamins 7 calcium.
Then just feed the worms to your turts!

unfortunately, at the same time, mealworms are nutritionally lacking and can cause impaction (that's right...) and kill your reptile. it's such a shame that most commercial feeders (especially the common ones that you can pick up at .. let's say any Petco) are so lacking in nutrients. i mean look at the typical selection for fish keepers. goldfish and rosie reds. both are lacking in nutrients and contain high amounts of thiaminase.

at least crickets are decent...

btw, check out phoenix worms. They're Black Soldier Fly larvae (yep, that means maggots) they naturally contain a nigh amount or calcium, and are MUUCCHH better nutrition wise than mealworms.

also, what kind of lighting do you use for your diurnal herps (assuming you have any)?
well i always completely gutload my worms with the orange cube, their size almost doubles and i'm sure that that does the trick, its just that it doesnt provide them with calcium.
And no i currently do not own any diurnal species but am looking at water dragons ;)
