How do I choose a healthy Betta from out of all those tiny containers?

I know this is a bit late but things I always look for are a short/ small body length which generally means younger fish that flares its fins and it relatively accurate with good colour and as said before should not be floating near the top

X2. I always seek out the young ones...........as wrong as that sounds lol..............considering the life span of a betta.
