How do I clean driftwood for aquarium?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For saltwater driftwood I usually just give it a good spray with a hose to wash off any debris and then throw it in the tank. From freshwater, I'd probably give it a good scrub and hose off then pour a couple jugs of boiling water over it and throw it in the tank.

Ok. I may do that then. The drift wood has also been sitting in the hot sun for a while, so a lot of stuff is probably dead. But I'll clean it just in case

I usually toss it in the back of the truck and slide by the magic wand carwash on the way home.

Set the controls to rinse, let the line clear out for a bit and pressure wash the bug snort, bark and anything else right off of the wood. I've tried warming pieces up half stuck out the front of mamma's oven and I've boiled a few smaller sections but I've never tried bleach or anything similar... partly because I'm chicken.
