have a pair, they go hand in hand everywhere, they make a depression or clean something off and....nothing happens. It seems like they want to but dont (i hate it when this happens :naughty:) . any suggestions? i have never breed anything before....this is a first

i think i have read that a cool water change and then raising the temp up a degree or two will put fish in the mood. Im not sure about jds tho.

If I take a few extra days to do the weekly wc on my convicts tank, there's eggs the next morning after the wc... dunno why but it works.

a bottle of bubbley, warm bath and candles.

but seriously, clean water, feed once more then u normally would daily but in less amounts, and also doing a water change and put tap water at roughly 75-77 and rise temp to 82 ish

also them being happy to breed plays a major role, no major threatening tank mates.

i usually do a 75% water change with water thats a little warmer than the tank temp. then raise the heater to about 84 and you should be good. works like a charm whenever my pair is showing spawning behavior

edit: when the female is ready to lay eggs, she will be showing her breeding colors. thats the best time to use this method

I guess I am the odd one out here.....I always do a large water change with slightly cooler water....Same way when I was breeding discus.

do a small water change (about 15-20%) and carefully and SLOWLY add ice cold water, then turn the heater to go to around 84 ish, it imitates the rainny season for them to spawn.
