How do i get my heaters to synchronize?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have one 300 watt heater on my 125 gal. it works fine. I also have one 200 watt heater on my 75 gal and it's working fine. I really don't think you need two 300 watt heaters on a 135 gal.

it will also help to place the heater perpendicular to the filter intake. that way the heated water is sucked in to the filter and circulated better with the outgoing water. my tanks have a more stable temperature this way...again, i agree, it's about water circulation to the dead spots, but normal for the heaters to heat unsynchronized.

Depending on filter type this can be inefficient. Wet/dry trickle filters will can the water. Sometimes better to place the heater near the output of your filtration.

So....in larger tanks your going to see a difference in temperatures through out the tank. It's not a big deal. Have you ever swam in a lake? Sometimes you get into a warm spot or a really cold spot, this is normal. If you have two heaters in your tank, one at each end, it's possible for one heater to be on and the other off. There's so many variables. Heaters may not be calibrated exactly the same. Heater settings may not be exactly at the same temps. Water flow, depth, lighting, all impact temps.
I set up one heater to the temperature I want and then set one or two heaters to a temperature a few degrees below the desired temp. That way I have a back up for cold nights and a way to gauge heater performance.

Holy Crap!

I use one 250W heater to keep my 125 gal tank dead at 80*F even on cold nights when the house gets down to 65*F...

600W of heater in a 135 gal tank is just asking for trouble...
nc-nutcase,
20x turnover, liters and liters of bio-media, and mega-watts of heater are symptoms of our society of excess; only in America.

I have 2-350 watt titanium heaters on my 180 and the water stays at 80 degrees. The heaters don't come on too much or at least they don't stay on too long :)
