I'm trying to get him off feeders. I will starve him for 2,3,4 days. I try to feed him raw shrimp ( whole and cut up). He won't touch it even if the light is off? What else can I try?????

the key are "PATIENT" my friend.

It's hard for piranha to change diet with in a day or two. Here is I would do.

From now on this week try to feed him raw shrimp for the whole week with small portion. After 30min if your piranha doesn't eat, take the food out. Try again the next day.

Next week try silver side or fish fillets. Again with small portion feed him your normal time, after 30 min take the food out.

Keep feeding them variety different food ever week, do worry to much about piranha nothing. They can go with out food for days, weeks, some time months. Just think about in the wild amazon. they don't get fed every day.

I would add power head, dimmed the light and make them very comfortable in the home first. IT will take time but it work.

good luck.

STARVE IT

feed it every other day, try silver sides and frozen krill. vryothr day put the food in leave it for 15 - 20 mins dependsing how long you have. then take it out. keep doing this until he eats! he will not kill himself from starving. he will take it eventually. trust me you have to not give in he will not die. my rbp took almost a month w/o food, i belive it was 23 days!

It took me 2 attempts to get mine off of feeders, the problem being that I wasn't cutting the meat small enough!! Apparently he doesn't like the idea of trying to rip off chunks half as much as he does the idea of eating it like spaghetti!!

Since you've just changed his tank, he may be a little stressed right now, but he'll settle down soon, and if you try chopping your foodstuffs to bite-size, that may help as well!!

Good luck!!

i wish i got mine off them the first day. Lucky!

any progress on the rom?

or leave it 2 weeks then try , mine go ape for tilapia and salmon so these might be foods he would like

i wouldnt really recomend 2 weeks. . . . . every other day should do it:ROFL:

and why wouldnt you really recommend two weeks do you think it would die of hunger in that time? if they are known to go months without feeding and be perfectly healthy what is wrong with making sure he is a little hungry before getting him to eat prepared food he wont take?

my sanchezi took prepared food the same day i got him, but my larger rhom took over a month. all fish are different...just be patient and offer food for a short time every day. he wont let himself starve to death.
