How do I get rid of brown algae

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would get three flag tail fish they eat more algae than any fish I know had problem in my 150 gallon and was all gone in three days.had a royal pleco in first and did not make a dent. You need to keep one or at least three other wise two will chase each other all day.

Royal plecos don't or hardly will touch algae, they are more carnivorous and also need wood in their diet.

I think my problem was the food I was feeding they were supposed to be sinking pellets but half would float even after hours of soaking when I wasn't home to feed the fish my wife would just dump them in with out takin out the floaters and it would all get stuck in my overflow so I'd have to clean the sponge on my days off which is only twice a week

I switched to different sinking pellets no more going in overflow so that helps

My lights are not too strong but they are shop lights so they might also be the problem I'm looking to go led once I figure out how to wire them and if I'm sticking with fish or am going to switch to something else

my tank started to get brown algae and I put in 2 bristlenose plecos. After 3 days most of the algae is gone. But you have to remember that once the algae is gone you would have to feed them algae wafers.
