New york, They are illegal without a permit but I'm sure many people disregard the law, or just don't know. This one pet store by me has 3 burms... chuckle a bit when I walk in.

Apparently so, if you search the NYC craigslist there's quite a few. Or as of a few days ago there was. I couldn't figure out if a store was clearing out or if I missed "National Re-Home Our Reptiles" day because there was a bunch of cool stuff up for there, lol

you can call your aspca, they won't take it but they usually have a few people lined up who will.

a pet store will take it and sell it for probably a couple hundred bucks. if someone is willing to shell out the cash for it they usually intend to take care of it. you won't get to meet who buys it but at least you know they really wanted it and not just taking it because it was a good deal. *my personal preference

craigslist is good too, just talk to them before you adopt it out and ask to see pics of their setup.

you could post it in the classifieds here too, yeah it's mostly fish but there's quite a few herps in there as well.

don't waste your time calling a zoo, as someone mentioned above (they might have been using sarcasm, idk).

Hmm I might have to hop on this.. I mean im all for breaking the law but I feel bad when its reptile related.. but then again so many people publicly keep them permit less.

Ill take him off your hands i have experience with snakes and had quite a few ball pythons. What type of enclosure do you have? Im only 19 so i dont know if im considered a punk or not but if your interested let me know.
Not to offend, but ball pythons don't really count as "experience".. They're like convict cichlids of the reptile world.

Scan Kingsnake....find a breeder in your area, message him and see if he'll take it off your hands.

Then you can ensure a good home.

Thanks for the replies. Pretty good advice actually.
Scatman brings up a good point. Perhaps allowing a reptile shop to get retail price rather than offering her at a deep discount will weed out those who normally wouldn't even be interested in her.
On the other hand, I suppose i'm being a little silly about it. She needs warmth, a clean tub and a nice med rat every 10 days or so.:D It's not i'm the only one on the planet that can offer her this.

The local zoo is the Bronx Zoo. I doubt they would be interested.:)

I would not even entertain those "Rescues". They are looking for free animals to sell, nothing more.

Fishfanatic80: Yes, you are a punk. (Just kidding):D

what the hell are you talking about?

ball pythons need virtually the exact same care as a dumerils, only dumerils need a bit bigger enclosure.

you didn't even say how ball pythons are like convict cichlids, are we just supposed to know what you meant?

easy to breed?
hearty?
cheap?
common?
kept in small tanks?
all of the above?
some of the above?
something else entirely?

even if they are "like convict cichlids", how does that negate any experience gained by keeping them??????

why don't you go tell a ball python breeder that they have no experience because they only keep ball pythons. say it to their face and see what they have to say.

Like I said, I am NOT meaning to offend in any way. Nor did I say that he would not be able to care for a Dumeril's Boa.

It simply gets a bit under my skin when people presume to be experienced just because they've kept a few snakes successfully. The reason it gets under my skin is many of these people will begin to consider themselves "experts" and will jump to keeping large Burms, Retics, Anacondas, and even venomous species, without knowing just how big a leap they are taking. Then these people will suddenly be hit with the reality of their situation. The result of this is an improperly cared for snake, a fair portion of which die or are released into the wild.

Did I say he was one of these people? No. Take a look at what I actually said, instead of assuming I meant the worst.

I dont take any offense to the comment because im all for taking proper care of animals. I didnt try to make it seem like i come off as an expert i just have experience handling snakes my uncle has a tree boa that i often handle and i also have a couple ball pythons. As what was already stated the boa and python have very similar needs to thrive. The only difference between them is cage size requirements and please dont refer a convict with a ball python. Balls can actually be pretty picky eaters. I dont intend to look like im an expert and try to take on poisonous snakes but to the op wherever you bring this snake i hope he goes to a good home.
