If that was mine and i wanted to filter light i would go get the weakest tint for windows tint it up and be good! on the glass versatop you will get green algae that will make the water have a green/yellowish hue. just wipe it and there you go.
While reading this I was reminded of the kids who build car sterios so loud they have to put in ear plugs to listen to them. Drop the wattage on the bulbs and stick with the far less expencive 'daylight' type tubes. lighting is one of the most misunderstood and overpriced parts of our hobby.
that would involve throwing away very expensive bulbs that will last for a while. The tint few bucks, removing a few lights at a time free. buying cheaper lights to replace badass lights.......
500watt floodlight 2" from the tank might be to much
I would get some floating plants or a couple banana lillies, it does look a little bright, I prefer a duller tank to an extremely light one except in planted aquaria.
