So I got this really big driftwood that I want to put in my tank. I would normally boil my driftwood, but this one is just way too big. I looked online and found another method could be to bake it. But its way bigger than my oven. Anyone have any other methods that can work? Thanks

What I would do is scald it with hot water and soak it in clean rainwater. Would repeat this over a period of a week. When soaking in rain water, I would add a lil salt juz for disinfection.

If its too big for the normal methods, how bout getting a really large metal bin or something and soaking it in there?

I still like bleaching stuff myself

Whoa I was under the impression that the wood could soak up the bleach and could later contaminate the tank. I do have it soaking right now in an XL ice chest. But this isnt a "normal" wood like african root or malaysian driftwood. Thats why Im so worried about the proper prep.

I bleach, too. The wood will soach it up, but that's why you follow it with a soak in water and dechlorinator, such as Prime.

Mark what's up bro how's the bichirs?........ The only way that worked for me on that big piece in my tank if you remember, was just to let it soak half for a week and then the other half for another week and I boiled a "bunch" of water first and just let it sit. That method works for me. You can also try going to target or walmart to see if they have a storage bin big enough for your wood piece to fit...

i would just hose it off then pour some boiled water over it then soak it in some prime, salt, and water for a few weeks then hose it off again and put it in the tank.

It will soak it up to clean the wood out but wash it down and soak it in the clean water and change that water and as other said add prime and all good. I bleach filter socks in wash take them out they still smell just a little like bleach rinse in sink then put right into the tank and pour some prime into the sock. Baby fish live in the sump and I don't lose any of them. And I am sure most are familiar with how fragile fry is.
