How do I raise the pH in my water?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think this is hard to maintain at all. You just replace as much as you take out. 25% water change? Add a solution with 25% of the mix. Since we used it to solve a problem, I know it works. And the same argument of not knowing if what you're doing is causing the problem or not would apply with using any buffering agent, whether it's this mix or calcareous rock. The crushed coral just wouldn't work for us, which is why we went with this, and I'm so glad that we did. As I said, I'm totally happy with the results. Obviously, it's up to everyone as to the choices they make with their tanks; I'm just offering an opinion of what has worked excellently for me.

pH Up is just a dilute base for fine pH adjustments, no more toxic than anything Just is adding. But it's correct that it wouldn't raise the KH at all, so it wouldn't buffer the water at all. It also wouldn't raise the general hardness - Just's mix or calcerous rock raise that too. A lot of these home-made mixes seem a bit sodium-heavy to me (it is the main metal in the baking soda and the marine salt and not a normal component of freshwater in large amounts) but I haven't checked them out in detail so I can't really say.
