how do i sink wood/driftwood?

put it in your tank and wait.... or attach it to a weight or something. i just leave it.

Weigh it down, tie it to a rock, and soak in large enough tub of water until no longer buoyant- or floating.

If it fails to sink within a couple of weeks- best bet is to secure it on some slate. I've used fishing line and even those malleable pieces of metal that secure bunches of aquarium plant to attach it to rock. I know people also have success with siliconing the driftwood onto the glass but i've never done it myself.

good luck.

before you put it in your tank, make sure you give it a good wash, boil it, and then soak it in water to make sure that all the tannins are out of it, otherwise it will discolour your water, and change the water at least every other day to avoid other nasties growing on it. Also is it hard wood, because soft wood will rot in the tank.

it pays to go read through this site thoroughly, because this topic has been covered many times, and i'm sure you will find the answers you're looking for. good luck

Not all wood will sink. I have 3 pieces of driftwood, 2 stayed down after a couple weeks of being weighed down. 1 still floats even after almost 1 year of being submerged.

i boiled mine several times, and it leached heaps on tannins, i then soaked it for another 3 weeks, with regular water changes until i was happy. But as long as you boiled it, changed water and then boiled again, and its no longer leaching, perhaps you could silicone it to some slate as has been suggested or weigh it down with a rock. Just make sure that its a suitable piece of wood that can go into your aquarium.
