Africans cannot have just live foods in their diet. They require an omnivorous diet consisting of vegetable matter and meaty foods.

cepon3;2636319; said:Of course this is all true.. I wouldn't recommend feeding Frontosa's live food.. there is no need for it, they are rather clumsy when it comes to hunting and in the wild they will eat sleeping fish which provides a reason why they don't have to be that fast.. They are not true piscavores and are more opportunistic and do well on a balanced diet which is easily provided with a pelleted food.
The title of this thread is how do i get AFRICANS to eat live food, not Frontosa's so hence my first post. The term "african cichlid" is a gross generalization and should really be done away with. I believe that we should use the common or scientific names for whatever specie we are talking about..
This is very true. The term "african cichlid" is way too general and considering how diverse african cichlids are, how are we supposed to know what you are specifically talking about or wanting to know? Using a common name or scientific name would really help us out and not just us, but you too. The situation would also be easier for everyone. Now, what if I wanted to know how to ween Central/South Americans to eat live food? There are so many SA/CA cichlids out there such as cichla, crenicichla, parachromis, apistogramma, archocentrus, dicus, etc. you get the point, how are we supposed know which specific fish it is that I am talking about. Just giving us the exact ID of the fish, then can we give you the info you seek.
