you could patch it like that... but it's not guaranteed it will hold or work and i dont really recommend it, it probably wouldn't be that safe, and you would have to drill the ends of the cracks so it doesn't crack any further and 1/4" would be too thin, you would need atleast 1/4" on either side, but more like 1/2".... replacing the whole pain would be much better, some razor blades and guitar strings and gloves and your on your way to the hospital! lol j/k
really though once you get that front off it's a sense of accomplishment, once you've got the new one on and it's full of water it's an even bigger sense of accomplishment....especially when you just saved yourself $1000....who could complain about that?
