Everyone says Neon Tetras are one of the hardest fish to breed in captivity. How do wholesalers do it? All chain petstores/LFS are always stocked with them.

They are grown on farms and with massive containers of water so water quality is higher, they can feed foods to condition them for breeding, and with a temperature change can easily trigger a spawning event. Honestly I don't know exactly how they do it with some species. For many though it is a matter of putting a lot of them together, conditioning them for breeding, then simulating their natural breeding trigger (in many cases a shift from the dry season into the wet season).

I think hobbyist fish will have lower tech techniques, but very possible. I think most of the farms are outdoor in tropical areas (like Florida or South East Asia).

Yeah of course lol. I think the smaller techniques are much more neat. Just because they are pairing off maybe only 1 pair as to multiple pairs having babies with who knows what fish
