Are you talking about a surface skimmer for an overflow box? Just cut smaller pieces to fit on the sides.

wet sand it with a very fine sandpaper 300+ and paint it black with krylon fusion... be sure to mask EVERYTHING that you dont want paint on

is it been painted on? If it is you can use metho too strip it, Or nailpolish remover, although, nail polish remover could melt the acrylic, But meh, Just be careful.
