How do yall clean out your water change hose?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maybe does the hose have a kink somewhere in the line? I have a hose set up that is most likely 15-20 yrs old. And it has a few linked areas that I have to physically open up myself.

I’d say that kink is your problem. I have creative ways of looping my hose to avoid kinks like that. Haha. I do have the green hook but it leaks so I don’t use it. But maybe getting one would work for you. No kinks then.

I too have never cleaned my hoses. Just drain and roll it up at shoulder high to make sure all water flows out. I also keep mine out in the open so mold does t grow while it dries out.

Something else to consider... how is the water pressure in your house? Has that seem to have changed?

Water pressure is awesome here, sometimes I think quite wasteful!
But yes its most likely the kink that has progressively getting worse with time.
Gonna try the hook. Or at least make a hook.

My thought given everything that’s been suggested is, if not a kink, possibly something has gotten lodged in the hose? My five year old hose has some build up put nothing that has restricted the water flow.

There are also biological cleaners for septic tanks I know some aquarists use.

I was watching on youtube right now about how to clean out canister filter hoses but I dont know if hydrogen peroxide will leave a residue?
If you watch please give me your feedback as I do have visible gunk in the hose, not as bad as my canisters were but still some there.

I've also never cleaned mine, lost count how many years I've been running it. When I bought it years ago I also bought one of these for storing it. No kinks.
