just wonder how do you catch a big rays (20 inch diameter) to bag him? i had a hell of a hard time doing it since mine was too big for a net and he would puncture any bag i use with his stinger. i ended up having a 15 gallon bucket right next to the tank and just let the water drain out of the bag while moving him real fast into the bucket, it was a mess

When we shipped that 20" Otorongo.. we just used a 20" wide rubbermaid tote (shallow) and herded him into the tub, and lifted it out of the water.. he didnt flop or splash at all..

Then we just gently poured and 'guided' him into the bag(5ml+?) while it was on the ground, and then transfered him into the styro box..

providing you can fit that into the tank , i'm asssuming he was not in a glass/acrylic tank wiht bracing on top

nice one! :)

it was a nightmare last time when i transfer my rays and they was just 14", cant imagine 20" lol

i would kinda always scoop my bigger rays with the net... this way they were used to me having it in the tank and lifting them in it...

yeah it was a nightmare, lucky i had the tank in the kitchen with tile floor so i just didn't care about the water flowing out of the bag into the flooor coz i knew i could clean it afterward.

I have used the smaller net trick to catch them head first. I wonder if a fishing net with the larger 1 1/2" holes would work with a larger ray. No mesh for them to get their barb stuck.
