that is what i have heard. it has had great reviews all around. how many pounds do you think that i will need for my 125? it is a 6 footer. how much does this stuff usually cost? i really ultimately want to upgrade to a 300 but they are hard to find used and damn are they expensive new.

I would say I used approximately 70 lbs or so for my 55 but I have a fairly thick bed of sand because the fish I kept liked to dig I'd say it has to be between 3 and 4" deep. I paid somewhere around $11 dollars a bag at a local pool supply store, home depot sells a version of pool filter sand but I did not like the coloring of it - in my opinion they are all not created equal. I would assume for a nice 2-3" bed of sand it will take you 2 - 3 full bags.

Be careful of making your sand too deep though - 3 or 4 inches is enough to get that black layer of muck that smells like a port-o-potty

Never had this problem, maybe because I stir it up every other cleaning? It is closer to between 2 and 3 inches though

i didnt even think about the sand going septic. that is deffinately a good piece of info. 11 bucks a bag aint too bad. especially since if you were to buy sand at a pet store, you are looking at like 20ish bucks a bag and they are only like 20 pound bags. so a depth of about an inch and a half to about two inches is a good depth for it?
