How do you clean sand?

My Malaysian Trumpet Snails clean my sand for me

Even your fish's waste?

The snails dig thru the sand and gobble up what they find. My filter takes in what's left. If I see piles of detritus in a corner during water changes they go. But all in all pretty low maintenance

Hmm... just wondering, what kind of snails is necessary for tanks? and where can i get those?
