.
I have difficulty cleaning my sand and was wondering how you clean it. Is there a special sand filter or something that sucks all the dabree (can't spell, sorry) off the surface of the sand? I try to clean it with a net or with a gravel vacuum on low, but that doesn't work too well. Any suggestions?

i stir up the top layer a little to get the debris in suspension and take a siphoning tube to suck up the nasties.

I just hold the gravel vac about 1/2" over the sand and suck up the gunk. sometimes you get a lil sand but its not emough to be concerned over.

thanks everyone, I'm still curious about sand filters though. Is there such thing?

Any other methods you have for cleaning sand?

don't be so lazy! hehe i syphon every week the top layer of sand give it a wash and then mix up alllll the sand .......so i know there is no poop anywhere in the sand (because the cichlids dig and poop----at the same time!)

I'm not lazy, I'm busy. And for your information I clean my tanks 3 times a week. I just want to find something that is easy.

I actually rely alot on the fish to keep mine stirred.
My Geo. is always working, the cories help out, and I have minimal effort on waterchange day. Only the biggest parcels need be removed.
I just "hover" the vac above the stuff to pull it out.
Yes I lose some sand this way, but I can always add more back in.

check out this video... also funny thing, when doing this, my fish will take waste from under rock pile and bring it to me to suck up... I thought I was crazy until the 100th time they are still doing it and I saw my little lab pushing it forward with his nose... and did not swim away
