How do you decide?

I think this one is easy from the info you have given. If you don't want a glass banger or care about having something that is really aggressive you can have a few of the fish you listed.

I a 75g would be fine for

1 EBJD
1 red spotted severum
1-2 Firemouth.

I have a red spotted severum with an EBJD and I get the best of both worlds. A great looking orange/red fish and a great looking blue fish :headbang2.

But then availability and price come in to play affecting the decision as well! Stupid variables!

Firemouths are dirt cheap and are easy to find. Most non chain stores carry EBJD's now. They are not cheap, but shouldn't be too hard to find. The red severums will just depend on your location. Some areas have lots of them and some have none.

Rapps has all three fish you want. Would be the easiest way to do it and probably not much more expensive then driving around and paying store prices.

or full grown EBJD's or red spotted sevs or full grown firemouths with their trailers.. LOL

Guess its a matter of personal opinion, imo EBJD's dont look right, nor do I find sev's or firemouths appealing.

Of course it's personal opinion. I feel the same way about oscars or 'nromal' severums. The adult EBJD looks stunning to me, the same way the adult male escondido does.. those blues both have are absolutely amazing. It has nothing to do with rarity of a fish for me, or where it comes from. I could care less about that.

I want something that:

A) Visually please my eyes (and my wifes!)

B) Has a personality I enjoy (ie; confident, energetic.. not shy, quiet and inactive)

You obviously have not seen a healthy quality bred adult EBJD then. I love my escondido pair, but they have nothing on my EBJD. He is a solid metalic blue with great finnage. Makes my regular JD look like a big pile of crap.
