How do you feed your monster fish when you are on holiday??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
buy a mass amount of feeders and simply let them go in ur tank...i buy 30 every wednesday and tusually they last till friday...and all the fish are absolutely chockers!! and dun need to eat for days!

This is probably the one thing my sister is good for.

yup my tank is full, and feeders here are $4 a goldfish/guppy (wot a rip) so im still stumpped.

seriously if its for 10 days i wouldn't even worry about it. The day before you leave feed them a butt load of food then just leave em. 10 days is nothing. Think about them in the wild.

I was gone for like 8 days and all I did was feed them until they couldn't hardly swim right before I left and cleaned the tank really good. The only thing I would worry about is if ur fish don't already get along then there might be a problem.

id agree about the throwing in alot of feeders fish like small kois.
i bet that if u do ur research and know reputable LFS in ur place... ull find a good source of feeders.
anyway 10days w/o food... they can last no problem.
i personally wud not feed them than taking the risk of throwing feeders that may cause alot more serious problem i.e. bad water params and bacterias/parasites that wont get any medication.

I pay the neighbor kids to watch all of my tanks. I went over each tank with them and showed them how much to feed them and then left sticky notes on each tank so they wouldn't forget what to do. After my last trip, everything turned out fine.

If you have good neighbors this is a great way to do it.

My last holiday I prepared ziploc bags with a days rations(mix of beef heart/prawns/smelt)
I had them in my freezer with the days they were to be fed and to which tank.
No problems
Probably the most important thing is not the feeding but rather someone checking the tanks to ensure filters and heaters are working.-I will hook up an extra filter for that very reason when I go away.
This site is filled with stories of broken filters causing fish deaths:cry:

I feed well then i let someone feed them about 1/2 way through my trip then change the water as soon as i get home and feed again.

I would do the automatic feeder but make sure you test it for a few days ahead of time to make sure it works right. I also put a some plants in my tanks to help maintain the water a little bit incase something would happen.
