How do you guys get measurements of your fish?

I remember someone saying that his RTC is 28 1/2 inches or something. What the hell? How do you get it that exact to 1/2"? Whenever I tell people how big my fish is, I'm like "uh...like 4-6 inches?" Do you guys take your fish out of the water to measure or something? I dont understand how you get such good measurements

When measuring fish, measure from tip of mouth to base of tail....Base of tail is where the body and tail fin meet...Never include the actual measurment of the tail fin....

Tell that to the DNR... the tail is a part of the fishes body

legally speaking the tail measurement is taken from the fork of the tail to the nose.

I have a piece of guttering with a tape measure glued into it, left over from a flyfishing competition I was adjudicating in.

i usually net them, hold them up against the glass and use a tape measurement. my eyeball measure really sucks.

(clam down people....)use a mesureing tape or yard stick and compare it with the size of your tank, than you should have your exact measurement.

Just net the sucker and slap a ruler up against them.

I leave a 15" ruler on the bottom ledge and look when they are by it... or I compare them to my overflow box that is 9.5' across

I'm impressed, my fish are only 1.5 to 3 inches and I can't really give you an accurate measurement.
