How do you guys get measurements of your fish?

I just guesstimate.Does it really matter that much?

Club the fish, lay it on the floor, when it stops moving- measure it with a "Stanley" tape rule.
That's how I do it. But then again, I can not seem to grow my fish over 4 1/2".

When measuring fish, measure from tip of mouth to base of tail....Base of tail is where the body and tail fin meet...Never include the actual measurment of the tail fin....

you just described what is called Standard Length (SL), if you include the tail it is called Total Length (TL), most books use SL while some use TL afaik, never say never
