How do you guys keep your tank bottoms clean?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depending on how much time you have on your hands when you feed, you could just drop in a handful (or however much) in the tank and once it's gone add some more until you notice them losing interest. I do this with my grow-outs all the time, because as they come in and then go into the big tank the amount of food the tank requires changes when each fish is moved into or out of the tank.

Thats what Ive been doing. A little bit at a time.

That past few days that is, sorry should have clarified.
Well IMO you can do 2 things. Reduce the amount of feedings you have per week (reduce it however you see fit) and then just feed the same amount as you would normally. Or you just feed them in smaller increments.

More flow better control over feeding

I think the temp too low to expect them too eat well. If you can't raise the temp then feed them less frequent. I've always found Polys like the heat. Can't expect them to be ravenous at that temp.

Same prob wit pellets .... No leftovers with tilapia lol but pellets I only have certain few that care for it .... And the temp thing is true mine eat less during winter when tank is 75 or so .... The way I do it is like dr.b I just do tilapia first few feeding of week then last 2 they get pellets then a wc

Lots and lots of filtration/circulation.

My 90g cichlid tank stays very clean it has a sand substrate. There a couple small dead spots which I just occasionally stir with a 2ft piece of 1/2" pvc.

My 75g Oscar tank is bare bottom. I've got 2x whisper 60 hob's and 2x fluval 406's on the tank. Nothing settles. Flow is dispersed enough that it isn't a problem.

My planted tank has lots of snails, and cory cats. I don't worry about it
