how do you handle a BIG dead fish?

I always used to think this was weird, (Taxidermy) But several years of keeping fish now and I don't! (ha ha). When my loaches die many years from now, I'd love to get a 12 inch clown put on my wall in a case!

i threw my dead monster oscar in the Charles River....i was 20 y/o at the time i didn't know it would make a difference, now i know im not supposed to. I thought i would give him a watery grave.

i preserve them, still waitin for my oscar to finish the prep phase. a well prepared specimen looks great in a shoe box display case, even if it is only a skin.

EAT IT. No, put it in a big bag, double bag it, tie it tightly, throw it out. or you could mush it up and bury it in the garden.

I'll agree with the part about not throwing it into a natural waterway, but throwing it in the trash or the toilet will not hurt anything. If the water treatment plant can handle my dumps, it can handle a dead fish.

That is not necessarily true. ask your public utility what is in your water...lol...you may be surprised. Also there are many bacteria that can go into a spore state which is very difficult to destroy. Waste water is treated by breaking down nitrogen compounds then dumped into the "Neutral Water supply' they accomplish this much the same way we do in our aquariums but on a much larger scale. Waste water is not disinfected and in many cases its not even mechanically/chemically filtered. This means many bacteria, hormones,drugs, pesticides,and many other unmentionables actually make it into the water ways.

This is what my fish usually look like after spending a month underground. I would have to bleach them tho to get it that white.

out of morbid curiosity , do the bones stay together ? i assumed once the cartilage broke down it would just be a bone pile?

Im lucky enough to live on a farm...I have an old american chestnut tree and all of my favorite fish are buried underneath it. RIP bigboi & andre 3000 - mated oscar pair.

Did you mean a REAL american chestnut, if so how big and where? Can you post pics?
