How do you heat your monster tanks?

I guess I get my figures from my electric bill. I have a 2500 sq foot house and my average monthly bill is $115 - $130. My last house was about 1,300 square feet with an average bill of $90 a month. Before I got the reef tank my average bill was $70 - $75 a month. Both houses are electric only, no gas.

On my reef tank my mh's were on 8 hours a day, my t5's were on 10 hours a day. The flourescents for my refugium were on 12 hours a day.

*edit - guess I was wrong, looks like reef tank cost me around $15 a month, not $10.

All my tanks run marine land visi therm stealths

I have a 250 watt on my 55
2-200 watts on my 20 gallons
and a 100 watt on my ten gallon
a 150 watt on my 15 gallon

I love the stealths :)

my 265 gallon has a 500 watt titanium. room temp is about 65 and tank temp is 80.

My 180 has a 300,my 150 has a 250,my 55 has a 100,my 60 has a 150.They are all in my basement which at this time of year is a little cooler than the main floor of the house.I dont know how much it costs per month to run these heaters but of course in the spring when I am able to turn them off there is a nice drop in the electric bill.

On my central system I use (2) 3000w inline heaters. The pump is a 1 1/2 hp direct drive. 160w UV sterilizer. Electric costs .17/kwh here, so it costs me a fortune. But, the system is in my building at work so the electric bill is tax deductible. ;)
BTW, if anyone has ever wondered what happens when inline heaters blow, it just happened to me. I heard a loud crack and when I went to look I found that when the heater blew, it cracked the fitting. So, I had water pouring all over the floor.

WOW some of you use way to much wattage for your tanks.

I've got 3 400 watt heaters in my 585 with sump volume it's around 640 gallons and it's a stead 79-80

My GATF 125 grow out ir run by 2- 250 watt stealths. but one is mearly a backup. and I keep that tank 82-83.
