How do you guys keep your tank so clean? I find it frustrating that I have to scrub the inside of my tank to remove the white sludge everyweek. What is the easier way to keep it from growing so I don't have to scrub weekly?

I leave lights ON for only 4 hrs a day. I also have a UV running 24/7. Tank is near a window but do not get direct sunlight.

One more question. I dont get brown or green algae and I run a UV but what is this white stringy crap ? I get it too and never got a definitive answer about it. My algae eaters wont touch it but it grows in my tank I am starting to think its a buildup from the excess prime I use or something. I don't get a lot of it and my tanks are always perfect as far as parameters nitrates never over 30 ppm ammo = 0 nitrite= 0

They only white slime I get allways appears on the rubber ends of my heaters.

Thats the only place I get and its only in the tanks with rubber coverings on the heaters.

But I have no idea what it is. We have hard water here so i allways wrote it off as calcium but who knows.

its probably bacteria, or just various detritus. prime doesnt buildup any unused prime evaporates or breaksdown with around 24 hrs later, with it being completely gone after 48 hrs

did a little more digging it may be slime mold or fungus or bacterial growths. most likely cause overfeeding.

Flag tail aka fei feng takes care of it. I never have to clean my interior glass anymore. Left over food no problem they eat it. At least mine does.

white stringy crap could be planaria as well, which can be treated by frequent WC and smaller feedings

That is the stuff! always on the rubber suction cups for the heaters :screwy: We have hard water too.. probably has something to do with that.
