white stringy crap could be planaria as well, which can be treated by frequent WC and smaller feedings
:D
Could be. I dont overfeed though and two 60% water changes a week lol plenty of water movement. Bleh who knows sorry to jack thread :screwy:

first what type of tank is it?
whats the size?
whats the bioload?
whats the fitration?
whats the water parameters?
what are the lights?
Tank size is 60"x24"x24". Lights are two 12w bulbs 10,000K.
Bioload is 20bichirs 10-20" in size. 1 12" kelberi Pbass, 5 large angelfish, 3 discus, 1 archers, 3 gars.
Filtration is Eheim ProII 2028 and Rena XP3, one bulb powerhead, 1 koralia 3 wave make.
Water parameters is always perfect.
I feed pellets, shrimps, and tilapia.

One more question. I dont get brown or green algae and I run a UV but what is this white stringy crap ? I get it too and never got a definitive answer about it. My algae eaters wont touch it but it grows in my tank I am starting to think its a buildup from the excess prime I use or something. I don't get a lot of it and my tanks are always perfect as far as parameters nitrates never over 30 ppm ammo = 0 nitrite= 0
The white stringy crap could be fish feces or from the food you're feeding. overfeeding and left over food would also cause this.

well lighting is good not overpowered(unless you have a nearby window)

you have a very high bioload this may be the cause, 20 bichirs atleast 10 inches is already over 200 inches of fish. not mentioning the others.

filtration is good i guess, never had a 150 gallon with 20 big bichirs before.

i assume nitrates are less then 40.

it looks to me your high bioload is the cause, assuming your not willing to lower it. i recomment adding phosban to your canisters. this may or maynot help he white sludge.

I never have nitrate problems. Last time I tested for nitrates it read 0 ppm. I do 50% water change weekly on this bare bottom tank. I think the cause of the white sludge building up on the tank is due to the meaty food I am feeding. The food clouds the water and eventually residue build up on the tank. What is phosban and how will it affect my water parameters?

it removes phosphate, something very important to the growth of plants and algae.
