how do some of you keep the non stop algea out of your pond? pond is only 280 gallon and i have a filter with a uv light thats rated for 800 gallons and its not doing the trick. ive heard of people adding the right amount of algecide to kill the algea but not the fish but im afraid to try that unless some of you can confirm it works and other ideas would be helpful. thanks

Certain types of algae grow better with higher/lower PH and KH levels. Many times, it is as simple as adjusting the PH or KH levels in your pond. If your pond is in full sun, you will want enough plants to cover 70% of the surface water area to help reduce algae. Barley is also beneficial in breaking down particles and algae in water and reducing sludge that can cause new algae growth.

check the flow rate of your pump against the recommended flow rate through the filter. If your pump is either too big or too small then the UV zap won't work (too fast - not long enough exposure to UV, too slow - not enough water put through UV)

i got a 3000 g pond
i put a lot of plants in it cover it for some shades
and a uv 36 watt
and it does the trick
