8-10X turnover. Micron filtration, turbo twist UV For my mechanical side

Matrix carbon , purigen for the chemical filtration.

Here is an old picture. Kind of gives you an idea. Sony cyber shot camera lol... Now using black tubing and external plumbing and whatnot. But this is under only 40 watts of light :)

50% water change every 4 days obviously with gravel vac as well...

Never tried the chemical stuff like Clarity does it work ?

Where do you get said Gravel vac?? I think I need one.

And as for the water, I do 25% water changed weekly. I also have a filter and a dark blue background! Its just construction paper I cut to size! Cheap! My water always looks super clear. Except for the damn brown algae!:WHOA:

I agree with the majority, it's a cooperation between gravel vacing and over-filtration. I over filter my tank with 3 filters rated way more than necessary! Example: 54 gallon corner tank with 18 full size Maleri Peacocks and 2 adult bristlenose creates alot of waste but I use a HOB rated for a 75 gallon, a sponge filter rated for a 75 as well, and then a sponge filter with a powerhead with a flow rate of 96gph.

I got a python gravel vac its the way to go. No more bucket lugging and constant wet floor etc.
I got mine from www.bigalsonline.com best aquarium money I ever spent.

That tank is running an eheim classic 2215 , fluval 405 and an ac110 as well as the powerhead powering the turbo twist UV. The amount of flow I believe helps against algae but I use my mag float once a week for a little haze the glass gets.

Whoever suggested filter floss, a shiny gold coin is already on rout to your home. :)

I took out two of the four baskets in my emperor 400 leaving 2 baskets full of carbon and packed filter floss into the remaining space. The next day the tank water was noticeably clearer. Couple of water changes and it might be TOTM material! ...Well probably not. :irked:

Thanks!

many use backgrounds which can help hide any color tints to the water. If there is no background it becomes painfully obvious that the whitewall behind the tank looks yellowish, brownish, or whatever through it.

However, if you're keeping up on gravel vac, w/c, and filter cleaning, your water should be pretty clear. Since I added an auto w/c to my 125g, the water looks much much clearer than when I was doing a 25% change weekly.

my 100g however is on the regular 25% weekly change and it seems clear as well, granting it has a black background. but the clarity could also have to do with the fact that it is barebottom. it makes it easier to remove waste.
I dont have backrounf and use gravel bak and u cant see any diff its almost like looking at the wall with fish on it.

Glad that worked out so well for you. I just switched from the LFS brand to premium green bag filter floss from wal mart. The wal mart stuff actually catches debris better than the LFS stuff so far.
