At what size or age do females begin breeding? Are there any signs to indicate their readiness? What is the smallest size anyone has breed a female motoro or similar ray?

smallest i have heard of is 10" and that is rare, normally around 12",, and there really isnt a way to tell

when she is preggo you know she is ready....

yeh males are the only ones that you can tell.

there is no size, or age when a female is ready.
each fish is to its own.
hormones/food/genes all play a part. too many factors to tell.

Yes when you see movement in her, then you know she was ready when your male stabbed her.

My female motoro was about 10.5" when she was pregnant for the first time. I didn't know she was pregnant until her backside started to fill out and I saw movement soon after. I bought her at 7-8" and had her for about a year before she became pregnant.

She was in the tank with 2 mature, but smaller, males. I did not notice any bite marks on her either.

one more thing like spotfin said, the only way to tell that mine was pregnant is i actually saw them mating, otherwise til about day 50 there was no signs she was prego until i saw movement.. Mine had no bites on the first pregnancy.
But once your male starts chasing her and the female is trying to sting him then you know the time is near.

Mine was 11 months old as 12-13 inches when she popped.

The males usually start sniffing their ass when they are ready.

LOL, this post made my morning.
