How do you know when a female is ready?

i could be wrong and it will be interesting to see other comments but i beleive the females skin becomes more "bumpy" as does the males when they reach maturity and usually breed at around 11" and above as far as i can tell

i think if the females skin on top is still smooth then its not mature yet . is what i mean if its not clear .

as i said will be interesting to get other opinions on that

Makes since...Some other species of fish display tubicles when ready to spawn...Hmmm....
