How do you make tap water "safe" for tropical fish?

Most fish keepers just use a dechlorinator such as prime to detox the water from the tap. If you have a well water, not city water you don't even need the prime.

You may want to take some of your tap water and let it sit for a couple hours then test the ph, ammonia, nitrate and nitrite levels to see what you are starting with also.

i used tetra aquasafe for ages but i now use seachem prime as prime is much more economical.

I have a nylon hose I connect to the kitchen sink... fill tanks as needed and dose with prime as I refill...

Doesn't it depend on the water that you have to start of with?

I also just attach hose and refill but I have never used any chemicals or anything in my tanks. Water parameters are all fine.

I fill buckets up and make sure the water really makes a spash when it goes in. Apparently chlorine gets reduced if it comes into contact with air, so making sure you hold the bucket as far away from the tap, and making it splash will sorta make that happen.

And I Use Prime... I always add a lil extra to the Ratio needed to fill my tanks
