With a Lumen meter.

damn you geordie
was gonna say lumenometer..

better question is why ?

Under no cicumstances will you ever need to in the aquarium hobby. If it's blinding you it's probably too bright if you can't see your fish it's not bright enough.

If you want to measure lumens becuase you think it will give you an accurate measure of intensity of light for plants then again it's a useless number. Lumens is light intesnity as weighted by the human eye, to which green and yellow appears brightest. to plants it's the exact oposite they can't utilize green or yellow at all and only use red, blue, orange, and violet light.

you can get a lumen meter but again i ask WHY ?

not for plants for a reef setup i have been told that going off of lumens is better then the old way of watts per gallon

You know you can also use a camera if you do not have a light meter.

Either way same idea lumens is a useless number in a reef set-up Corals don't see in lumens they see in PAR. PAR is the only way to accurately measure light intensity for photosynthetic organisms.
I shouldn't have said plants i should have said photosynthetic organisms.

Spend any time on a reef forum like reefcentral and you'll see none of them use lumens it's all done in PAR now.
