Because when you get water on the paper/the fish splash, it gets ruined. If you decide to change it (the paint) a razor blade will take it right of.
Plus a 1/2-1 quart of paint doesn't cost but a couple of bucks.
I used a roller with three coats.

i used LFS store black backrounds. glossy photopaper like, wouldn't get ruined at all. tape on-tape off

attached backgrounds turn into a mess overtime. best to paint it and not have to worry about dirt, dust, water splashes etc.

I assumed he meant regular black paper.
I have use the black backgrounds in the past, just got tired of my large cichlids feeding on pellets or chasing feeders and splashing down the back, then water stains in get in between.:)

Thanks for all the info! So do yall think that using sponge brushes will work. I'm planning on doing one coat of horizontal strokes then vertical then horizontal and so on....

Spraying it would look better.

well i decided to paint it black with paint. it looks great!!! the only problem it took me 11 coats to be fully covered due to the fact that the coats had to be so thin so they would not drip so in the future it looks great but for a sake of time 11 coats is a bit much. it took 30 min for paint to dry after every single coat but all in all not that bad

11 coats. You must have used a thin paint. I have never had to use more than 3-4 using a standard 4" roller. I then would put a large box fan on it to dry faster.

I just got a roll of 5% limo tint 20" wide cheap on ebay.
Went on easy with a squeegee I got at the dollar store.:D
