How do you perform water changes?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pythons scare me because of the lack of time for aeration. And the idea of adding tap water straight to a tank kind of makes me wiggle in my seat, with or without dechlorinator.

I do this to each tank.

Use my mini 5 footer gravel vac and use that, water goes to the bucket. Start up the python now and take water out.Stop. Add Prime. Turn the python thingie opposite way. Stop right before it overflows because I forgot while being on MFK. Then start new tank.

i have a python but it doesnt drain my tanks. i dont think i have enough water pressure in the tap. so i vacuum the tanks into buckets to dump, then fill them with the python. resalt, and add water cleaner. with my girl it takes us about 2-3 hours to clean 8 tanks. i dont worry about the tap water because i have had it tested and there is no chlorine in it to start with.

Where do you live? I thought all municipal tap water had chlorine.

i do 1 50% w/c on my 90 once a week using 5 gallon bucket light gravel vac this w/c, next refill with 5 gallon bucket.p.s this is done on wensday, saturday do a 90% w/c on my 90 gallon tank removing all the decorative rock work and thoroughly vacuuming gravle, clean all algae from glass then refill useing same 5 gallon buckets that rotate through this prosses, after this my 29 ebjd grow out gets a 50% weekly water change again useing 5 gallon buckets, then after this is dun i do my planted 75 gallon s/a tank
which gets aboat a 10-20% w/c weekly. i will never complain aboat w/cs as i actualy look foward to them.

I do water changes twice a week.
Note: my tanks are all in my basement.
I drain water into 5g buckets, which i climb a flight of stairs to the 1st story and dump into the backyard. Then i go up the second flight of stairs to the bathroom to fill in the tub. I add dechlorinator at this time. Then carry the bucket down two flights of stairs and dump into my tank. I'm able two carry to full 5g buckets now on my trips. So it cuts down on the time. What I go through for my fish. :D

1) Lug 5 gallons of RO water from unheated basement
2) Pour 5 gallons of RO water into mixing tub
3) Repeat 3 times for a total of 15 gallons
4) Add Seachems Alkaline regulkator to get 3 dkh
5) Add PEAT bag, heater and pump
6) Let heat up for 2-3 hours
7) Check temp and add CO2 if needed to reach desired pH with controller
8) Remove 15 gallons from 55 gallon Aquarium
9) Dump 15 gallons into sink
10) Use pump to add water back to the Aquarium
11) repeat ever 2 weeks

i have a hose attatched to an old internal filter without media in and run the hose outside. switch it on then bingo have the tanks water is down the drain. to fill up i run the tap into a bucket and stick the pump in the bucket and hose in the tank and run the filter. i have to run the tap to keep up with the filters flow rate. I add tetra aquasafe every few minutes to the bucket.
