How do you pick your fish when you buy them?

size, color, health, behavior, feeding/not skinny. It all plays a role. Its going to be your new fish so it needs to be a size you can handle and that will go with your other fish. Color has to appeal to you. Behavior has to be normal and the health has to be perfect. If it isnt acting right or you are unsure about its health, it is not worth the risk of brining home a diseased fish that you now have to cure. A fish that is stressed and not eating already has issues. If you cant fix those problems quickly, a fish in poor condition may only die. Pick a strong healthy fish that you love the look of

I always choose the fish that looks the healthiest, has the best color and is the most active.

I watch a fish for a few to see how it acts. I ask what they are being fed and how they react to me and the fish they are with. Color and overall looks should always be taken into account when buying. I will watch a fish for 10 mins before walking away and thinking about it

If it's in a species tank I look for the dominant one cuz it usually has the best qualities. But definitely body shape color and I like to run my finger up and down back and forth on the front of the tank to see if he follows or shys away. A little weird but I've just always done it.

I pick the ones that either seem like a really good deal, or the individuals that are unique or special, such as a different colouring or fin shape. Of course if tehre are any obscure rarer fish that I can house and are a good price I will also get them.

All I can say is for the love of god don't take a fish that is unhealthy because its a good deal, I did this with a TSN and it died overnight, just was not worth the trouble.

My checklist:
1. Healthy fish from a healthy tank
2. Ability to comm with my existing fishes.
3. Size, according to my fish comm
4. Desired traits as to that fish species eg... colour, spangles, lines, finnage, shape
5. Reasonable price
