How do you rinse your sand?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
colorquartz is discontinued.

Best way to rinse sand is in a 5 gallon bucket with a garden hose. Remove any sprayer attachment from the garden hose, you WILL ruin it if you don't.
Put 1-2 gallons of sand at a time into the 5 gallon bucket, put hose in bucket, fill bucket, dump water, fill bucket, dump water, repeat until completely clear.

If you're putting the sand into an established tank, rinse it with warm/hot water until its as warm as the tank water. Otherwise you'll drop the tank temp so fast your fish won't know what hit them.

Where in MN are you located? Thanks jschall
just google local supply houses for gardening, masonry, or stone work and go down and get some....i'm sure there are places around you....shipping would be costly for sand.

I just got two 50 lb bags of 3m Colorquartz Black for 46 bucks!!! I was going to get one until the guy at the counter mentioned its discontinued, so jump on it!

Well I am going to NWC in st. paul next year. I have ton a silica sand for my tanks at the moment so I am not in need of it but it would be cool to get at college next year for my 55.
