how do you Sex the Tex???

i havent got any pics at this time, but at what size, and how do you sex texas/carpintis??????

how do u tell the diff between carpintis and texas at around 2-3"????

my one is a blue/green colour is it carpinitis or texas???

if it is female it should show a nice black blotch on the dorsal fin. although not 100% accurate, but close. other then venting the fish, there is no 100%way of telling.

I would also really like to know how to tell the difference between the two. I mean I can tell the difference between the two when I see full grwon pictures but as juvies I'm clueless!

juvie fish are almost nearly impossible to sex.

Exactly, however, none of my female carpintis have the black blotch. I just vent them or wait until I see breeding coloration.
Males also develop a larger nauchal hump and have longer fins.

Texas are more plain at a small size and generally more gray. A 3" carpintis should already be brightly colored with blues and greens.
I can always tell just by looking if they're more than 2". (that is, in person)

I'm not sure how you sex them when there small. Males will get a hump and have longer dorsal and anal fins. I think you will be able to sex around 5 inches.

Alright, the Texas Cichlids at my LFS have are about an inch long. They are greyish, have little green sparkles, and stripes. The best way to describe their jaws is it kind of looks like a small mouth bass' jaw. Any idea?
