The fish you are using as your avitar is a Carpintas, it has Larger spots that form a 'maze' or the spots are very close to each other. Male carpintas will have a long flowing posterior dorsal fin, as opposed to females who just have a point, but does not grow long, also females are more rounder. Somewhere along the way, people started calling it the "Green Texas", but it really is just Carpintas. The tue Texas cichlid or Pearl cichlid or as Texans use to call it, "Rio Grande Perch", has very small turquoiseish dots on a grayish body. Females have a black "Oceli" blotch on mid dorsal, plus back half of body will turn jet black, with a couple of vertical dark bands. Males stay mostly gray with the same spots, but NO blotch on dorsal, and will grow a nuchul hump as do carpintas males. But again on the carpintas, their base color is greenish with big pearly spots. Hope this helps?AlBiNo ReD oScAr;1506598; said:so how fast do these guys grow?????

Top pic, definatley a carpintas, the bottom pic is a stumper, really looks like a true Texas, since the spots are so tiny! I have not seen a true texas cichlid in a long time, and I have been searching for one, and I think you have one there my friend!Cdog;1546950; said:It would help if I put the pics in.
