How do you sterilize your equipment?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
potassium permanganate FTW, powerful oxidizer that will kill most nasties. Add enough to turn your water pink, soak your stuff until it turns dull purple/brown (means it has oxidized and not active anymore) then rinse and use.

You can buy it anywhere they sell Koi meds, and it's cheap & safe. Planted tank keepers have been disinfecting their plants this way for years.

A nice bleach solution works the best simply run a few gallons of water mixed with bleach threw a gravel Vac or python and then run a few gallons of clean water threw it to wash out any left over bleach and Ta Da clean equipment

EQUIPMENT DISENFECTANTS

Don't they sell that as dechlorinator as well?

perhaps you're thinking of sodium thiosulphate? That is what's in like 90% of dechlor solutions. Trust me, you don't wanna try and dechlorinate with this stuff... or touch it while it's still active for that matter. It won't burn (unless you have made it wayyyy too strong), but it will stain your skin pink until the old growth sheds off.
