I can tell the difference in delhezis because wild caught ones usually have darker patterns and more black stripes than captive bred ones. But how about other types of polys like endlies? What are the things you look for in determining WC or CB?

Not always 100% but pretty close.
For example my CB PBBs look no where near as nice as my WC ones.
And VERY easy to tell apart.
I would much rather pay the premium for a WC or F1 knowing it has a much better gene quality.
I would have good genes over looks any day.
It is fact that most CB are mass farm bred, these fish are without doubt of lower quality.
Yes, dealers often sell CB off as WC but that's not a problem if you know your source, and have kept enough WC and CB to be able to tell them apart.
And to add, going back to the first post, IMO WC Bichirs tend to have less in the way of patterns.
With Delhezi, CB are usually the ones to have lots of patterning.
I'm a bit of a snob, I will only buy WC from a legitimate dealer! I agree that there is a difference in head shape, strange patterns, and a stunted look to the dorsal finlets in CB that is fairly accurate in helping me identify the difference between the two! The bottom line is buy whatever you like! For me that's getting a pure bloodline as natural as I can get! No short bodies, long fins, platinums, albinos, or any other created hybrids! I even keep separate endlis and laps that have been collected from different locations. But that's just me! Whatever floats your boat! IMHO Johnathan
