Some of mine have no preference (other than mood). Others like more secure/sheltered areas.

First, the blood parrots:

Patch - sleeps squashed in corners under plants, inside her 'house' or between floating plants. Sometimes sleeps in the open.

Kong- sleeps in her 'house' only. Won't sleep out in the open at all.

Boss - mostly sleeps in a nest of plants hidden from view. Might sleep under vines near the top. Once in a while sleeps in the open, mid to upper levels. In the morning he's usually stuffed into the plants along the back wall.

Tango- sleeps with plants at his back or in an enclosed space. Avoids open areas. Boxes himself in so he's surrounded.

The synos Cash and Spot sleep in the log or float mid level upside down.

Corn- the severum sleeps leaned against the log or behind it along the back wall.

Bobo- the choc sleeps in the log or up top in the corners.

Pip - the HRP sleeps in plants, behind the log, or inside the log. Will also sleep in corner underneath sponge filter.

Pepper -the rainbow sleeps in plants or in the open out front.

Jazz/Rocky - the acaras sleep in/under plants.

Brick -the oscar sleeps most anywhere, in the open on the floor up front, in his pit, or near the surface. Or he may sleep behind the log along the back wall.

This is my grow-out Oxydoras niger named Nigel.
This is how he used to sleep in his little pvc pipe. He pretty much sat in there all day until I put food in haha. He was probably the laziest fish I ever owned. He's much more active now since he's 10-inches, so I do catch him swimming around the aquarium from time to time.

Most of my fish are somewhat normal for sleeping. Just have their respective territories. Except my Raphael. He sleeps upside down in a tunnel thinner than him (right side up here):

My L24 sleeps with her belly up in her PVC hideout. Scared the daylights out of me the first time i got her and seen that

I forgot about my bn pleco. It lays upside down on the gravel under a log. Not even attached to anything. One may assume it is dead.

Figured I would show some 'sleep' pics.

Here's a groggy Rocky, kind of sitting in the plants. I LOVE the early morning "amber light" mode with the leds, reminds me of a swampy Amazon biotope with the murky/depth look. Very natural. And the fish wake up gradually with no stress.
